1910 Stanley Model 70 At the dawn of the motorcar era there were many interpretations of what exactly a car should be. Style, design, and engineering where just a few concerns, but propulsion was also a critical factor as there were cars that ran on electricity, gasoline, springs and even a few brave designs that were said to run on compressed air. Some worked and some didn’t, but one method that had proven itself repeatedly on America’s railroads was steam. The ability to move hundreds of thousands of pounds with steam power easily translated into powering a car. No one was better than the brothers, Francis E. and Freeland O. Stanley. Building their first car in 1987, the brothers steadily refined their design and then amazed the world with the reliability and speed of their steam powered car. Experiencing the usual growing pains of a successful company, the Stanley brothers went on to command the steam car market, a position they held until the Staley Company withered away in late 1924. ✅ Subscribe to Our Channel for More Cars, Tips & Resources: https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoGuysandaRide/ ✅ Stay Connected 👉 Twitter: https://twitter.com/GuysRide 👉 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twoguysandaride/ 👉 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@twoguysandaride ============================= ✅ SEE all of our HOW TO videos here: CarTechHowTo.com - http://bit.ly/2ZvDrbE ✅ Our Playlists: https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoGuysandaRide/playlists ✅ Other Videos You Might Be Interested In Watching: 🚘 1951 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet - https://youtu.be/b_2DiBbHtDg 🚘 POLESTAR 2 - You WILL Buy This Car! - https://youtu.be/SpONzft5iLM 🚘 DODGE Sierra Wagon with Rear-Facing Third-Row “Spectator” Seats - https://youtu.be/-4Zd83xdx2I 🚘 2022 Bennington Tritoon 23RCW - https://youtu.be/S08erqgB9dk ================================= Special Thanks to: ================================= ✅ About Two Guys and a Ride: Two Guys and a Ride’s channel is dedicated to all things automotive. CORONA - Did Toyota BEAT DETROIT at our own GAME???
Today we're talking to Eric about his awesome 1967 Toyota Corona It's shocking to realize that, when the U.S.-spec Corona arrived for 1965, Toyota's American division sold fewer than 21,000 vehicles here that year. Even that was a boost—Toyota's sales in the first half of the 1960s were dismal. But the Corona, engineered for American driving conditions, fueled the company's rapid growth: In 1968, the year Toyota introduced the soon-to-be-best-selling subcompact Corolla, the automaker sold 72,554 vehicles. With help from the new small sibling, Toyota's U.S. lineup accounted for nearly 124,500 vehicle sales in 1969, and more than 200,000 in 1970, the last year this generation of Corona was offered. The U.S. market variant of the Corona, introduced here the following year as a 1966 model, was improved primarily with a larger, 1,900-cc "R"-family engine. Under a forward-tilting hood, this longitudinally mounted OHV four-cylinder featured an 88 x 78 mm (3.46 x 3.07 inch) bore and stroke, and 8:1 compression ratio. It used a downdraft two-barrel carburetor with automatic choke to make a respectable 90 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque. That output was enough to afford the Corona a 95-mph top speed when equipped with a three-speed manual gearbox, or 90 mph when fitted with a two-speed "Toyoglide" automatic transmission, the latter being based on GM's Powerglide. Braking was American-style too: four-wheel drums that measured 9 inches in diameter and sat behind 13-inch wheels mounting 5.60-13 tires. The suspension design was similarly conventional, with unequal-length A-arms and coil springs in front and semi-elliptic leaf springs supporting a semi-floating hypoid live axle in the rear. Although the Toyota was priced a bit higher than its German competitor, with its modern design, 10.1 cubic feet of trunk space, and the availability of four doors, this model would prove much more accommodating than the VW. It had the Volkswagen beat on standard features, too, including a padded dashboard, visor vanity mirror, full carpeting, a fresh air heater/defroster, two-speed windshield wipers, and quad headlamps. Costing extra on the VW, but included on the Toyota, were vinyl upholstery, a driver's-side armrest, a cigarette lighter, chrome wheel trim rings, undersealing, and twin horns. Other options common to both cars—including a radio—were typically the same price, or cheaper, for buyers of the Japanese car, and Americans could even spec their Coronas with port-installed air conditioning, a real luxury for a small import. 1964 Boston Whaler Nauset
1964 Boston Whaler Nauset The Boston Whaler is an American boat manufacturer. It is a subsidiary of the Brunswick Boat Group, a division of the Brunswick Corporation. Boston Whalers were originally produced in Massachusetts, hence the name, but today are manufactured in Edgewater, Florida. Richard "Dick" Fisher graduated from Harvard University in 1936. He ran a company building small, lightweight boats out of balsa wood. He designed a rowboat and got the materials to build it, but he never completed it. In the 1950s, polyurethane foam, a stiff, lightweight, buoyant material, was invented. Fisher imagined it as a replacement for the lightweight balsa used in small boat construction, and in 1954 he constructed a small sailing dinghy filled with the foam, with a design similar to the Sunfish. He showed the finished product to his friend, naval architect C. Raymond Hunt. Hunt recognized potential in the process, however he did not feel the design was particularly suited to sailboats. Instead, he created a design based on the Hickman Sea Sled featuring a cathedral hull. Fisher built a prototype out of Styrofoam and Epoxy. "It had two keels," said Fisher, "one inverted V between the runners and an anti-skid, anti-trip chine." This prototype boat began to have a slight V bottom and the two runners on the sides. Fisher then approached Hunt to examine the design changes. Hunt added his own design changes to the prototype; most notably, a third runner in the center of the hull. Fisher then built a prototype based on this new design to serve as a plug for the production mold. Fisher and Hunt then took the boat on sea trials. One of these tests was to run the 13-foot (4.0 m) boat from Cohasset, Massachusetts to New Bedford and back, which is roughly 120 miles (190 km). During these sea trials, Fisher found another small flaw in the boats design: it was "wetter than hell." "A lot wetter," he said, "than the other boat had been." The reason for this, according to him, was the 9-inch-wide (23 cm) sole throwing spray into the boat. Since the mold was already made, it was modified by adding to the flat center between the three chines, turning it into a V-shape. In 1956, this design became the original Boston Whaler 13. Thru the late 1980s, the classic 13 ft 4 in (4.06 m) Whaler, and the 16 ft 7 in (5.05 m) Montauk were the most popular models in terms of sales. Gradually though the company moved away from these designs to a more conventional deep-vee hull, and after 1996 no more of the classic tri-hull boats were manufactured. ✅ Subscribe to Our Channel for More Cars, Tips & Resources: https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoGuysandaRide/ ✅ Stay Connected 👉 Twitter: https://twitter.com/GuysRide 👉 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twoguysandaride/ 👉 TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@twoguysandaride ============================= ✅ SEE all of our HOW TO videos here: CarTechHowTo.com - http://bit.ly/2ZvDrbE ✅ Our Playlists: https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoGuysandaRide/playlists ✅ Other Videos You Might Be Interested In Watching: 🚘 1964 I.M.P. Kaiser Darrin - The CAR Henry J's WIFE WANTED
The Kaiser Darrin, also known as the Kaiser Darrin 161 or in short as the Darrin, was an American sports car designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin and built by Kaiser Motors for the 1954 model year. Essentially a revamp of Kaiser's Henry J compact, the Kaiser Darrin was one of its designer's final achievements and was noted for being the second (behind the 1953 Corvette) American car equipped with a fiberglass body and doors that slid on tracks into the front fender wells. The car was named both for Henry J. Kaiser, head of Kaiser Motors, and Darrin. The Darrin was conceived as part of a movement in Detroit to compete head-to-head with European roadsters being imported to and sold in the United States in the post–World War II period. Among other products developed were the Ford Thunderbird in its initial two-seat form and Chevrolet Corvette. While the Darrin was designed attractively, it was also underpowered and, while a good performer overall, did not measure up to foreign vehicles such as the Nash-Healey or Triumph TR2. The Darrin's high price tag, lack of consumer confidence in Kaiser's viability and practical challenges with the car's design resulted in low sales, though sports cars at the time were generally not fast sellers. This is HOW YOU DRIVE Ms. Daisy! 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood
Spectacular All Original 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood Cadillac's 1947 lineup was the end of a chapter - one that began in the prewar era. Starting in the 1940s, Cadillac focused its energies. Gone after 1940 were the successful junior-division LaSalles nibbling away at the bottom end of Cadillac's market share; so, too, the mighty range-topping, if slow-selling, V-16-powered models that were banished to the used-car lots of history. For the 1941 model year, the extreme ends of Cadillac's lineup were not quite as extreme as they were just a couple of years earlier: The new B-body-based Series 61 Cadillacs replaced the LaSalle marque entirely, and the Series 75 Fleetwood became the top of Cadillac's model lineup. From five series and 39 models in 1940 to six series and 26 models for 1941, this lineup was eventually whittled down to just four series and 12 models for 1947. That re-focusing appeared wise in the long run. Cadillac had a rough year in 1946. As the division got back on line, material shortages plagued all manufacturers that yearned to build cars for a hungry postwar public. As a premium car line, fewer than 30,000 1946 Cadillacs were built. And there likely wasn't much hope for the 1947 models internally. They only needed to keep up their end of the bargain while style changes for 1948 and mechanical changes for 1949 were being prepared. Even in 1947, there were more than 100,000 unfilled orders waiting for the division. GIs had back pay to burn, and despite the ever-consolidating series and model lineups, a total of 61,926 Cadillacs were built-more than twice the number built for 1946. (Just as importantly, the 1947 Cadillac line beat Packard by nearly 10,000 units.) And this, despite the prices jumping. A Series 62 four-door sedan, like our feature car, started at $2,359 in 1946, and increased to $2,553 for 1947-a nine-percent increase year-to-year. On the other hand, a series 75 Fleetwood five-passenger sedan started at $4,340-nearly double a Series 62, but only $42 more than a comparable 1946 model. "Mr. BLUE SKY please tell us why..."
You had to hide away for so long....Where did we go wrong? The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. It first went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year and was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang. The Camaro shared its platform and major components with the Firebird, produced by General Motors' Pontiac division that was also introduced for 1967. Four distinct generations of the Camaro were developed before production ended in 2002. The nameplate was revived on a concept car that evolved into the fifth-generation Camaro; production started on March 16, 2009. Before any official announcement, reports began running during April 1965 within the automotive press that Chevrolet was preparing a competitor to the Ford Mustang, code-named Panther. On June 21, 1966, around 200 automotive journalists received a telegram from General Motors stating, "...please save noon of June 28 for important SEPAW meeting. Hope you can be on hand to help scratch a cat. Details will follow...(signed) John L. Cutter – Chevrolet public relations – SEPAW secretary." The following day, the same journalists received another General Motors telegram stating, "Society for the Eradication of Panthers from the Automotive World will hold first and last meeting on June 28...(signed) John L. Cutter – Chevrolet public relations SEPAW secretary." These telegrams puzzled automotive journalists. The Outlaw - A 2600 hp Mini Modified Tractor
The Outlaw - A 2600 hp Mini Modified Tractor Truck and tractor pulling, also known as power pulling, is a form of a motorsport competition in which antique or modified tractors pull a heavy drag or sled along an 11-meter-wide (35 ft), 100-meter-long (330 ft) track, with the winner being the tractor that pulls the drag the farthest. Tractor pulling is popular in certain areas of the United States, Mexico, Canada, Europe (especially in the United Kingdom, Greece, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Denmark and Germany), Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Vietnam, India and New Zealand. The sport is known as the world's most powerful motorsport, due to the multi-engined modified tractor pullers. All tractors in their respective classes pull a set weight in the drag. When a tractor gets to the end of the 100 meter track, this is known as a "full pull". When more than one tractor completes the course, more weight is added to the drag, and those competitors that moved past 91 metres (300 ft) will compete in a pull-off; the winner is the one who can pull the drag the farthest. The drag is known as a weight transfer drag. This means that, as it is pulled down the track, the weight is transferred (linked with gears to the drag’s wheels) from over the rear axles and towards the front of the drag. In front of the rear wheels, instead of front wheels, there is a "pan". This is essentially a metal plate, and as the weight moves toward it, the resistance between the pan and the ground builds. The farther the tractor pulls the drag, the more difficult it gets. Join us as we visit with the owners (and driver) of a beautiful 2600 hp mini modified tractor, made to pull! - https://youtu.be/SpONzft5iLM 🚘 DODGE Sierra Wagon with Rear-Facing Third-Row “Spectator” Seats - https://youtu.be/-4Zd83xdx2I 🚘 2022 Bennington Tritoon 23RCW - https://youtu.be/S08erqgB9dk ================================= ✅ About Two Guys and a Ride: Two Guys and a Ride’s channel is dedicated to all things automotive. BACK IN BLACK and Rockin' the '70's!
1979 Camaro Z28 - Cody's Restoration The Chevrolet Camaro is a mid-size American automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, classified as a pony car. On June 28, 1966, General Motors held a live press conference in Detroit's Statler-Hilton Hotel. It was the first time that 14 cities were connected in real-time for a press conference via telephone lines. Chevrolet general manager Pete Estes started the news conference stating that all attendees of the conference were charter members of the Society for the Elimination of Panthers from the Automotive World and that this would be the first and last meeting of SEPAW. Estes then announced a new car line, project designation XP-836, with a name that Chevrolet chose in keeping with other car names beginning with the letter C such as the Corvair, Chevelle, Chevy II, and Corvette. He claimed the name, "suggests the comradeship of good friends as a personal car should be to its owner" and that "to us, the name means just what we think the car will do... go." The Camaro name was then unveiled. Automotive press asked Chevrolet product managers, "what is a Camaro?" and were told it was "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs," an obvious reference to the Ford Mustang, which created and dominated the Pony car market GM was entering.
